Carré, and Me Waxing Philisophic on the Topic of Advice

It has been noticed by myself and others who photograph Carré that, more often than not, she looks more than a little sad in photos.

So let me just say this: she is not always sad. Once I saw her almost smile. I even heard a rumor she laughed at a joke, several years ago.

Which brings me, roundabout, to advice. Well, it hasn't really, but I'm there anyway. Roll with it.

I used to be the guy who gave advice at every turn. Actually, thinking on it, I still am.

Very opinionated, I am. In any event, what has changed since my youth is not that I no longer give advice, but rather that, most of the time, I no longer expect that advice to be followed.

I've given Carré advice on occasion, well aware the odds of her actually listening to what I had to say were slim. Not because she's stupid or obtuse, but because, as it took me far too long to figure out, people, many times, need to learn things for themselves.

It's why you can't replace just finding information on the internet with actually going out and learning things.

The difference between information and knowledge. It's the actual experience that, I dunno, catalyzes the information in the brain.

So the next time you give some advice, ask somebody to dodge a bullet you know is coming their way, and they don't? Don't mind it too much. You've provided half the equation they need to avoid it next time. Hopefully.
