Jim, on His Front Porch
I'd met Jim through a group of new friends awhile back, but it wasn't untilIan Broyles photographed him that I got it in my head to take his picture.
Because that's where things stand with Ian and I. I look at his stuff and it makes me wanna do better. I'll see one of his photos, think to myself "damn, I wonder if I can get something near as good from that model of his."
Which is an excellent place to be with a friend. Loving his work, wanting to do as good.
Which brings me to Jim, helluva guy. Shooting guys, as I've mentioned before, is very much a different beast for me. Fortunately, Jim was easy to talk to, we both have a fondness for chess, which served as a nice icebreaker.
Because, no matter the gender, this kind of shoot, for me, is all about conversation, really meeting the subject.
Maybe that's the main difference between this, my older kind of shoot, and the shoots I've been doing with actual Models. Those Model shoots are much more about Getting the Job Done, both of us working to make good photos.
The shoot with Jim, the shoots with people I just find around the way, those are about discovery, about learning who it is in front of the camera.
Man, I sure do love photography, that I can do all that just by having a camera in my hands.

Samantha in the Backyard
So I've started to branch out a bit.
Samantha here is from FORD, with make up by our very own Steph Farrell, on location in Silverlake, with me ably assisted by (and assisting) Ginny Guzman and Ian Broyles. Whole crew did a fucking rad job!
The plan was...well, there was plan, and then there was the great light and the fact that I had no choice but to go outside and shoot with it. BECAUSE I LOVE LIGHT.
It's definitely different, working with a team like this. Thinking about a shot you want to pull off in the location, working with a model who is actually A Model, thinking about what she should wear, how her make-up should look.
It was definitely a blast, I like the change of pace, the way my shooting shifts slightly when serving a different thematic master.
Or maybe it's all exactly the same. Whatever it is, I LIKE IT.

Steph is Voodoo
Had ourselves a great time this weekend, two shoots, 3 models, used some lights (still getting used to those. apparently you have to....what's the word...practice), left my battery at home and was forced to use a 5d Mark II (WOE IS ME), worked with folks I love, doing the thing I love.
Oh yeah, and got to take pictures of Steph. There are FAR worse fates.

Alie Brings Her Own Light to a Shoot
Sometimes it's just a smile what makes a shot work.

Amanda in the Waning Sun
Whoever I end up with, should I be so lucky, will have to be informed that I have a mistress.
I cannot leave her. I cannot forget her. I cannot ignore her.
I am, and always shall be, in love with light.
