Cheshire Street, Sundown

Cheshire Street, Sundown

Late on a warm February afternoon, the setting sun illuminates the Broadgate Tower which dominates the view from this ancient road on the border between Spitalfields and Whitechapel, close to Brick Lane in London's East End.

Fore Street from Moorfields High Walk, Barbican

Fore Street from Moorfields High Walk, Barbican

Looking straight towards the sunset from the Barbican high walk at Moorfields. In the far distance is one of the towers from the Barbican Centre. This highwalk was meant to be a taste of things to come, a bold idea in city planning where the pedestrians are separated from traffic in an area dedicated to their needs. Sadly, the money ran out long before the idea came to fruition. Still an interesting part of London which should really be regenerated as it is a wonderful way to see London Wall and a unique experience in the heart of the City. The dominating blue building to the left is St Alphage House, an example of brave new 1960s architecture, which is awaiting demolition and redevelopment.

House Sparrow (2)

House Sparrow (2)

The same sparrow a little later. Finally, after a couple of hours of near misses he posed for me at an angle that made the shot. Who knows why there has been such a severe decline in a once ubiquitous bird? The worry with this decline is that if it a fundemental change in nature then how much longer will it be before it impacts human kind?
