釜石

釜石

This photo of the totally destroyed lower part of Kamaishi was taken from a pedestrian bridge that possibly saved people's lives in March 2011, as it was high enough to stay above water level when the Tsunami hit this town.

Looking at that photo I think of the people that died in those destroyed houses. I was in doubt, whether it's right to take photos at a place like this and publish them on the net.
Finally, we should not forget too soon, what happened here in March 2011. Additionally, I want to point out that the people in that devastated area are doing their best to rebuild their town. Almost all streets in Kamaishi are free and usable again, you see the company in the background is working and hundreds of residents and volunteers are working to clean it all up.
I envy those people for their strength.

In memory of the victims.
(Kamaishi, Iwate)

I paid a visit to the tsunami affected areas of Iwate today. Even five months after the quake, this area looks completely devastated.

This ship was dragged ashore during the Tsunami of March 11th, 2011 at Kamaishi, Iwate.

Let's not forget those victims.
