Kathy- that's not a stick - it's a high tech multi purpose bean-pole :) :)

Hi Magikbeenz. Don't have any stereogear apart from the freeware software stereophotomaker to align the shots. I just use the cha-cha method- take one shot move the camera sideways and take another. My son accidently took the above stereo pair.

I was admiring your work, I wanted to make a comment about all of the photos in general and thaought I would be clever and leave my comment on this photo. I guess I wasn't so original after all. Great photos. What's with the stick? is that an alignment aid? How do you get the insects to stand still? Are you a bug whisperer? Ok, that's a joke. I'm in the market for a macro. What focal length are you using for these?

Thanks ytf_nyc
I use the stick as a very quickly adjustable monopod to help stabilise the camera.
Bit about not scaring bugs here www.flickr.com/groups/macroviewers/discuss/72 057594073223...

I use either a sigma 105mm lens or a canon MPE-65 - the latter is a bit specialised. I always recomend a macro lens around 100mm as the best starter/all round macro lens. Any of the major manufacturers make excellently sharp lenses around this focal length.
