How did you manage to get them so perfectly rectangular? I've made pixel cookies, but they never come out like that, the butter starts getting soft and they start running. Only way I can think of doing this is to freeze the pixel lines down and then work with the, when they are still frozen.

After making the cookie dough and pressing the strips, I refrigerate the strips for over 30 minutes on a baking tray with baking paper in between every layer of 10 strips. That way you can take out one layer, assemble them and then take out the next layer and work your way through the pattern. The dough works best when chilled, but not frozen.

Having said this was a one time only project, since it was sooo much work. I applaud you for having made several batches.

Thanks for sharing that trick; I probably would have tried it that way myself next time, but it's good to know that others have tried it and it worked. And yes, it was hours of work even without an extra refrigeration step, so I'll need a very good reason to do this again. I'm thinking pixel-font cookies for someone's birthday who a) is an 8-bit geek and b) has a short name.
