The empty 401

A handful of cars in the eastbound collectors.

The explosion of a propane facility in the west end has closed the 401 today from the 404 (just behind me) to the 400. I've never seen anything like this. When we were passing over the highway and looked at it, we were so struck by seeing the 401 without traffic for the first time that we had to stop and get some shots. This view looks west from Don Mills Road towards Leslie Street.

Note to the Abandoned Roads group: temporarily abandoned... temporarily. ;)

Nicely done! I heard Cam Wooley on the news say that he had never seen that much of the 401 closed in his 30+ years on the force. We heard the initial blast and we live a good 14 km away.

I've driven the 401 when in Toronto on vacation (I'm from Indiana) and always figured it was the Road that Never Slept, because it seemed to be cram-packed at all times of day.
