retro beauty

this little bad boy was in the lobby of the standard hotel in LA (witch is fare from standard!). i bet it could make some off the hook sounds being analog and all. unfortunately it was not plugged in. i am sure there is key board nurd out there that will be able to tell us the make and model of this bad boy just like when Oldtasty pointed out i had a photo of a Seeburg 3W1 Wall-O-Matic wallbox don't all click the link at once.

I remember one of my relatives having something like that back in the 70's. A "Baldwin Fun Machine" I think it was called. Not sure if this is the same or not.

gotta love the standard, last time i was there someone was actually playing the organ.

    25. Oldtasty (77 months ago | reply)

Hahaha, and here comes OldTasty again with the product identification. That, my friends, is a Thomas "2001" Space Organ, manufactured in 1976 by the Thomas Organ & Piano Co. of Chicago, Illinois. According to a blurb on this page of their web site,

In 1976 the pedestal organ was built for the future. Well I guess organs didn't quite look like this in the year 2001, but maybe it was modeled after the movie Space Age "2001"

There also happens to be one for sale over at eBay. Starting bid: $699.99.

With love from your favorite reference librarian ;-)

Wow, my grandfather had this exact organ when I was a kid. I remember playing it before I could even reach the pedals. My grandfather was a staunch atheist but loved to play the organ so much that he would still go play for the local church every Sunday. Thanks for the flashback :)

Fantastic! I love the different textures in the background and floor, with the bright colours of the keyboard. I'm an admin for a new group called Friends of Truprint and we love retro photography. It would be great to have this photo added to our group.
