Female Chlamydosaurus Queenii

Female Chlamydosaurus Queenii by AraiGodai.
Frilled Dragoness, (Chlamydosaurus Queenii) is so called because of the large puffed up hair folded back against its head and neck. The anti gravitational hair frill is expanded when the creature is frightened or excited.

Adult frill-necked lizards may grow up to one and a half meter in total length. They often walk quadrupedally when on the ground. When frightened they begin to run on all-fours and then accelerate onto the hind-legs. The frill of the Female frilled dragon is used to scare off potential predators — as well as hissing and lunging. If this fails to ward off the threat, the lizard flees bipedally to a nearby tree where it climbs to the top and relies on camouflage to keep it hidden. - Wonkipedia

frill necked lizard bw
Closely related to its cousin, Frilled Dragon or Chlamydosaurus kingii. You may also see a much older relative illustrated in the film Jurassic Park.. the Frill Dilophosaurus.

h00_ray If you want very sharp motion freeze, the faster the shutter speed, the better. It depends on the available light. This one was taken indoor so i can get around 1/160sec at f2.8 (maximum aperture opening for this lens) I also ask the model to move as close to the sunlight line as possible.

At this speed, you can still see some motion trail of the hair, which is desirable. I guess shutter speed selection depends on 1)what effect you want (how much motion trail) 2) speed of the subject 3) available light. 4) camera shutter capability. Generally around 1/500 and up, motion will freeze. Some camera are not very good at focus and shoot fast moving object. In this case, I swapped to manual focus.

For comparison, the shot below is taken at 1/200, you can still see slight motion trail, - but the subject's hair flutters much faster than the one feature on this page.
there was a moment...

she uses herbal essence shampoo, for this shot she uses extra-hard-fast-freeze-mega-hold-super-streng th gel.
