Greenwich pathway #1

Greenwich pathway #1 by reynard.
30/11/08. Pathway to Maidenstone Hill. Apparently there's a large network of caves below the streets round here. According to Ed Glinert in The London Compendium (Penguin, 2003): A cavern was located in 1780 and tours used to take place .. until 1835 when the lights went out one night so it was closed. When the authorities tried to reopen it in the 1930s, no-one could find the entrance, so a shaft was sunk at number 77 Maidenstone Hill. "There a passage was found grattifi'd (sic) with names of visitors from the eighteenth century and carvings of the devil." (p.392).
