SID's story

SID's story by little_olenka.
Sid is looking for a home!!

Sid, a sweet, 9-month-old pit mix, was found wandering roadside, dragging a chain from his neck. The chain had been attached around his neck when he was still a small pup, and as he grew, the chain did not—it became embedded in his skin. At the time he was found, the wound from the chain was open, bloody, and infected. He was taken in by PAW and given a three-hour surgery to remove the chain and stitch him back together. The most remarkable thing about Sid is that despite how painful and traumatic the experience must have been for him, he was kind and loving to his rescuers and vets.

He’s healing and recovering really nicely now and maintains puppy-like high spirits and energy around all people. He is such a sweetheart, and he seems great with dogs and children, too. If you live in the DC area and are interested in meeting Sid or any of the other PAW dogs, please visit www.paw-rescue.org or contact me via Flickr-mail!

I wish I could save them all. People who let these things happen (the neglect) should be shot. Sigh.

This reminds me of Axel, one of the Louisville shelter dogs: www.flickr.com/photos/eileen_mcfall/400766676 1/

I hope Sid's story has a next chapter as happy as Axel's. He looks like a wonderful pup, and when they stay that sweet after suffering such neglect and abuse, you know you've got a terrifically trustworthy dog.

Eileen- Sid's story is just like Axel's! Lucky for us, we got Sid straight away after he was rescued, so he's been safe and cared for since-- albeit in a kennel not a foster home, because we have a severe shortage of foster families in our group...

I'm glad he's safe, but I hate it that he's stuck in a kennel! Is your rescue group in touch with any schools or colleges in the area? Colleges often have service learning programs and coordinators, and I've developed some project descriptions to get them started. And high schools and middle schools often have service clubs (Beta Club, Key Club, etc) that might be a source of foster families, too. Send me a message if you want more info, or if someone else in your organization does. I hope Sid has a safe, loving new home very soon!
