SCA fighters wait for their chance in battle at the Autumn War event in Orting, Washington, on September 11, 2005. As you can see their trousers and shoes are not necessarily medieval, but the heraldry sort of makes up for it.

Wow, that was quick.
Truthfully, I didn't take the photo to make fun of the guys; the colorful heraldry caught my eye. It was only after I got home and looked at the photo that I realized how non-medieval they looked from the waist down. I don't really see it as funny so much as... I don't know, whimsical, I guess.

I love the way the sneaker-treads actually match the tabard!

Wow, I didn't notice that!

Dude, that's my warband, i know all of these guys - I was probably three feet off camera when the shot was snapped. Only the guy in the middle has money for the full medieval outfit - the rest of us barely afford the armor! I've got a picute somewhere of on guy in cargo shorts and armor with white tennis shoes. We still poke fun at that.

What is the name of your group? I saw you at this year's event as well. As I mentioned above, the photo wasn't to make fun of you... I actually really liked that you had heraldic tabards on and that is what caught my attention.

Company of St Ulrich. I think it's funny too. I was just happy that somebody liked our tabbards because we spent hours making them. The SCA is like that though; anachronistic and humorous. The best reason to have a tabard is to cover your shorcuts ; )

On the field we call these guys "Bumble Bees." They have good small unit tactics.
