White-throated Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis perpulchra)

White-throated Kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis perpulchra)

It is looking pretty please with itself and it should be having just picked up a fish from the pond. Guess I should be pleased with the picture too, only problem is that it was a fish I had put in not too long ago

The above picture is before it dived into the pond. This is when it got out and had partially dried itself

Red dragon on lotus

Red dragon on lotus

Keeping in line with the dragon theme for the year - a red dragon on lotus (both auspicious for the season).
Actually a red dragonfly ( id yet to be established, probably only when I get the book Singapore Odonata) about to land on a lotus flower in the garden pond. Green background from some plants on the side and the halo around the dragonfly is water splashing around the fountain. Mid-day sun overhead caused the dragonfly's shadow to be cast on the lotus. Would have chosen a different time and lighting but the dragonfly seems to be active only when the sun is bright.

Not quite a macro but probably the best possible with a long lens.

Same dragonfly settled on lotus bud www.flickr.com/photos/lipkee/6736348983
Lotus = Nelumbo nucifera??
