So, to say the least, the last few days have been nuts. Ugh. Wednesday was Claire’s birthday. She was sick so she was just a handful. But we went to dinner with my family and friends. AND the day before I made a German Chocolate Cake from SCRATCH! With the help of my ‘mother in law.’
And then yesterday while Claire and I were at the fabric store, Colin called me and said the basement had flooded. He just KNEW I could fix it over the phone. OMG. And when I got home and told him what we needed to do he proceeded to freak out like all men do. Long story short, we have a major plumbing back-up problem involving roots in our sewer drain in the yard. So today we had Roto-Rooter her trying to fix it. It’s not really fixed and we’re going to have to shell out a few thousand to really fix it.
But this evening after the baby (toddler I guess) and Colin went to sleep, I decided to tackle at lease one of the dresses that I wanted to make. So, HERE IT IS! I’m pretty damn proud of this thing. I usually take every short cut possible when it comes to sewing. But I measured, ironed, pinned and hemmed every spot I was supposed to. And I must say, it looks damn good!!! And it only took me two hours!!! From start to finish. Tomorrow I think I’ll do the other one that I bought. And then in the very near future I think I’m going to do a few smocked sun dresses! These are my take on a pillow case dress. I read quite a few blogs and tutorials on how to make them and then mashed all my favorite parts of each one together to get this one.
I hope everyone’s last few days have been a little less hectic than mine!!! And have a wonderful weekend!
Still no official one year photos of Claire! :( hopefully soon!
oh! P.S.! my sewing desk was my grandmothers on my moms side who i never got the chance to meet. she died LONG before i was ever thought of. and there is a few things of thread still in it that were hers. the thread i used for this dress? SOME OF HERS! i think it's so neat that claire is going to have a dress with a piece of her great grandmother who she'll never get to meet. i dunno. i thought it was kinda cool. made me feel like i new her a little. my mom's always talking about what a wonderful woman she was. it was almost like i sewed with her tonight.
