Worthing Palms

Worthing Palms by Vicky Lamburn.
Inspired by a Holga photograph I saw in Jan 2008's "Black and White" phography. Taken on the way back home from work. Sadly I didn't have a tripod but I managed to just about keep this steady and keep a good DOF.

Looking to blow this up large for my living room.

Love the shadows and warmth of the January winter sun in this.

Note 29/1/2008: I have taken this view again with the red filter and a tripod. Should have the results soon as I shot it with Delta 100 and I don't have enough room at the moment to develop my own films.

Beautiful shot! I'd like to see a little more detail in the palms themselves... I suspect your scanner might be at fault here :)

Possibly, the Coolscan III is only an 8bit per colour channel scanner so that does sometimes 'blunt' tones. That said I don't think I can blame this on the scanner but perhaps using evaluative metering as the sky was very very bright (the sun literally was setting) so I had to be quick. When I get another chance I'll take this same shot again against a similar sky and try out the EOS 3's multi spot metering to pick out the highlight, mid-tone and shadow and see how that works out!

That said I have the negative at a local lab now for blowing up to 12x16 so the result will give me a clearer idea of what has happened.

Thanks for your kind comments :)
