I'm angry. I'm livid. I'm disgusted, disappointed. I feel like I'm being ignored, swept under the rug, suffocated.

Being gay does not make me a bad person. Being gay is not hurting anyone. Being gay should not be something that people need to talk about in secret, hidden, in hushed voices. Being gay should not deem me a second class citizen and deny me my right to marry who I choose.

Being gay should not result in this.

Being gay should not mean having to ask permission to marry the person you love.

To everyone who voted yes on Prop 8 in California - Fuck you.

To everyone who voted yes on Amendment 2 in Florida - Fuck you.

To everyone who voted yes on Prop 102 in Arizona - Fuck you.

To everyone who voted yes on Act 1 in Arkansas - Fuck you.

To anyone who has ever called me (or any other gay PERSON) a faggot - Fuck you.

To anyone who has ever shown violence towards the LGBT community - Fuck you.

We are PEOPLE. We are not an alien race. We are not a cult. We are people, with lives, jobs, families, and feelings. We are constructive members of society and to deny us of rights that all PEOPLE should have is just WRONG.

Voting against us is not going to make us or the issues disappear. We're not giving up. We're fighting back. We aren't going anywhere.

Acceptance is one of the most important things to fight for...and I can't belive that being gay can still be an issue! It's also strange how otherwise very open minded people judge the gay communities even harshly. It's good you stand up for yourself and for everyone's right to love whoever they choose to love.

I live in South Carolina and worked on an LBGTQ awareness committee here at the University and believe me, I see so much ignorance in my state as well.

Nicole, thanks for making a point of mentioning Arkansas' Act 1. That law actually was written with gays in mind, to prevent them from being able to adopt children or take any custody; but it also affects any heterosexuals who aren't married but living with someone from doing the same. Act 1 is particularly bad because "pro family" social conservatives are planning to make a push for similar laws in other states as well; possibly even California. As it is now, my sister's marriage is in jeopardy, but if this law catches on, she and her wife won't even be allowed to have children.
