Welcome to I-con, 1st International Container Art Exhibition
The ISO container was one of the important innovations in 20th century logistics. It enabled efficient and cheaper containment and distribution of products by land, sea and the sky for the global mass consumption. Almost every manufactured product humans consume spends some time in a container. 18 million total containers make over 200 million trips per year around the world. Some 10,000 containers are lost at sea each year.
Having its origins in the late 1780s, containers have been beside shipping used as structural element for unlimited purposes. They range from Africa, military training facility, schools, homes, stores, abstract art, labs, clinics, studios, data centres to clandestine cannabis gardens.
The Box, a BBC project is following a container around the world for a year to tell stories of globalisation and the world economy.
Here at I-con we want you to follow the containers telling the story of their quest for a way to positively change the lives of all with only one container, so the others can be set free.
