This Unit was first put in service when the
First Tactical Support Squadron (1st TSS)
moved from Virginia to RAF Sculthorpe,
Norfolk, England in 1952. In May of 1954 this
Unit would become the 1st TDS which had 8
Detachments at one time. The MK-5 was carried
by the B-45 Tornado, Americas 1st Jet bomber,
almost forgotten today. It is omitted from
being carried by the B-45 in some sources,
but having been there, this is the fact.
Later, SAC Units would carry bombs in
England, but this was a TAC Unit.
