I believe this is actually not near Creede, CO at all. A horizon this flat can only be seen near the front range in Colorado. I would guess that this is taken on US-40 climbing Mount Vernon Canyon west of Golden, CO, facing west. The hill in the center just below the horizon would then be Green Mountain south of Golden. These days, I-70 takes up most of this valley, as you can see in this shot facing uphill: www.dot.state.co.us/50anniversary/images/I70P hotos/I70Mou...

I agree with custos2001's comment, except that the view is to the east (not west). At the time of that photo, the highway was designated as both US 6 and US 40.

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called White Wall Tires, and we'd love to have this added to the group!

My guess is that the car is a Packard, but evidence is minimal at best. I notice that it has white wall tires.

The car's a '41 Buick convertible.

Yep, you're right. A Buick. I had to look at the large size.

I think I pretty much confirmed as best I could that this photo was taken on US 40 west of Denver, CO, and not near Creede (which is a few hundred miles southwest).

Zyrcster-- Wow! Your visual proof of the location is a fascinating photographic journey as well as convincing evidence.

Well Oiled Machines, Howard33, usends, kennedmh, and custos2001-- With thanks for your observations that helped relocate this photograph and identified the car.
