G. Washington's teeth (LOC)

nomnom
This looks quite painful
ya x_x
Whats with the huge gap ???
They were on display for a while , but later went on the more lucrative Talk Show circuit.
most of the country's electorate consisted of country bumpkins, if you wanna get elected, you better look the part, and not like some city slicker. a lesson that was lost on hillary last year.
what is this?/It looks weard
It's called a Diastema a common practice when setting up Dentures many people have a space there and it helps the denture look more natural
Is that a spring?!
I would NOT want to trap my tongue in that!
no canines?
Looks like horse's teeth !
Hm... I ever thought, they were made from wood... ?__?
this was not part of the original dentures. it was added after G.W.'s death to keep them together so people could examen them.
"teeth made of wool"

George Washington's real dentures are at the National Museum of Dentistry in Baltimore - scans found that the actual dentures were made of Hippopotamus ivory and not wood as commonly believed. His read dentures contained lead and even animal teeth see article at: www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6875436/

and yes, some of the teeth are horse and donkey teeth - apparently these were in use in dentures at the time.

I saw on a History Channel special that Washington was likely in pain because of his tooth loss. The researchers believe that he lost his teeth at an early age and suffered not only bone loss from them being gone but also ill health from not eating properly.
Poetic that I should find this photo after having a tooth extracted today. "You need fillings soon or you'll have cheap falsies like George Washington!"
