drive the car instead of walk / train / bus / bike to school or work: go shopping to entertain ourselves: buy food that's travelled thousands of kilometres to reach us: products ditto: jet off around the world on holidays - especially 'eco' holidays - because it's alright now, we bought a couple of low-energy light-globes only last week: leave air-conditioners chilling and lights blazing because we're entitled to: etc. etc. and most of all assume that none of this really means I have to change -
brings us that much closer to a disaster so complete that most of our imaginations simply fail to grasp it
the new world that these turbines exemplify is inevitable; denying it or resisting it is not only ultimately futile, it increases the likelihood that a severe austerity will eventually have to be imposed, rather than a milder one negotiated
It's hard to imagine how huge these are
unless you've seen them for yourself. I saw
Canada's largest wind farm of 83 turbines
near Swift Current, Saskatchewan last summer.
It was truly amazing. I like the colours
and the perspective in this shot.

I think things will slowly improve, but at a
snails pace. You're right, will it then be
too late?
I also think our nations' leaders bear some
responsibility for setting laws and
facilitating change. If only the popular
vote mattered (in the US), things might be
different today.

The message is right-on. But the photo?
That's just freakin' beautiful. This is one
of the things that I don't understand about
people who oppose wind turbines in their area
because they're "unsightly." In my
opinion, modern wind turbines are really very
graceful.
love the tones in this, and the perspective
is great!! I saw some wonderful offshore
windfarms in copenhagen, truly breathtaking,
massive turbines. I like Denmark's approach
to wind energy - lots of small scale
"village size" projects, rather
than giant windfarms, I think this way it's a
lot less intrusive on the visual/natural
environment.
Interesting effect and lovely shot. The
tones make the point, even without the words.

Not sure what you mean by small
"village size" projects in Denmark.
Denmark is a leader in wind generated power
and has two quite large projects that I am
aware of. Nysted with 72 towers and Horns
Rev with 80. Between them, they can produce
enough power to meet the consumption
requirements of about 295,000 average Danish
homes. That is a lot of villages!

sites is a little unintentionally comic to a

Agree with your message and love your photo
!!
Voluntary changes will help if they become
a mass movement but at the current pace it is
way to slow to have significant impact ... we
are in a slow slide into irreversible changes
of our biosphere...
Last year in northern Spain I saw many
mountain ridges dominated by these huge
turbines... they were intrusive but a welcome
view given the alternatives.

Brilliant imagination in the use of the sky
colour to give an unworldly feel - and as you
suggest, the world in 2050 might not be much
like the present one if we don't get off our
arses and do something about climate change
and other of our big environmental problems.
