Mossy Tree

Mossy Tree

Our plan was to hit Sol Duc Falls, Hall of Mosses, and Ruby Beach. We dropped Hurricane Ridge before we really started due to time constraints. We left Tacoma around 7:30am and headed up to Port Angeles. It rained a little, but as we got closer to PA, the skies really started to open up around the coast. We could see blue skies ahead. Well that didn’t stay for long. As we got closer to Sol Duc Falls the temp dropped to 35 and we could see snow on the ground. As we pulled into the entrance road to the falls, we were abruptly discouraged by a “Road Closed” sign. We were slightly bummed, so we headed off to the Hall of Mosses. Once you turn off 101 onto Upper Hoh Road, it takes about 25-30 min to drive back to the hall.

The hall was amazing. It was lightly sprinkling so we dawned our rain gear and head onto the path. There are a lot of places that you can stop and shoot, but we were pretty much set for the end goal. We shot the big tree then headed to another section of a group of trees. After a quick time check we departed and headed off to Ruby Beach. On our way out we stopped off to get some Birch tree shots and ran into a herd of Elk. Not much to tell about Ruby beach other than the storm front was moving in and it really wasn’t much we could do. We took a few shots and were pretty hungry by then. We headed back down 101 South. If you have the chance, get gas in PA since the little gas station we hit charged $4.04 gal. We stopped off a good steak place in Aberdeen and all had burgers.

Overall it was a ok trip. If I were by myself I would have been pretty disappointed, but with the crew in hand, it made it so much better. We got back to Tacoma around 7:45pm. Almost 13 hours on the road and ~$100 in gas, in a Tahoe, it was well worth the trip. Though we all agreed that Sunday would have been a much better day .

Calming rock

Calming rock

Sorry, I cannot recall the name of this waterfall. Chris Mullins checked a site and we went down to it. I spent all my time taking pictures of the lower section while Chris, Irfan, and Darshan shot the upper section. Beautiful falls and you should stop and see it...once I get that info.
