To college, library, positive feedback from my tutor for my camera obscura project, a theory seminar on our upcoming Vietnam project, then home. On the face of it a decent day but it left me feeling rather irritated. I don't feel like the obscura project was particularly difficult or interesting, but it got a far better response than my Canvey project which I found much tougher to do. Out for a BA opening later, then drinks with a Warwick friend and home.

To college, coffee, theory lecture on imagery in the wake of the 9/11 attacks which was interesting and triggered a few dormant ideas I had for exploring the way news images effect memory through montage. Took a couple of portraits, then some lunch on the grass, another portrait and then a lecture from another tutor on his work about a community in north India. Developed some films, read, then had a beer with the other students and headed home to cook for dad.

Felt pretty rough this morning, took the day off to laze in front of the TV, read a bit and tidy up a bit. This is the title page of my camera obscura project book, I'm pretty pleased with it for a first attempt at book design and making, there are things I'd like to change but as another MA student who's also a designer said 'there are always things to change'. Out in the evening to the cinema to see a great new print of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp.

To college early to queue outside the printing room. Got my work printed, then bound by the book people. Not overly happy with the first version I made some layout changes and bought some heavier paper and made two more, finally getting them finished and handed in (along with the camera obscura itself, wrapped in brown paper) at about 5pm. Then to the pub to celebrate with much too much beer.

Another day at home getting the book finished. It's just about there I think, although printing will be the real test. As well as rationalising my reasons for the project I've tried to provide quite a broad overview of the camera obscura as an optical device, its history and some of the theory issues around its use. Even so everytime I reread what I've written I want to change everything. Supper at dad's in the evening.
