Camouflage

Very similar to other earless lizards, the bleached variety of these little critters have adapted themselves perfectly to their environment. When stopped, they are perfectly hidden, well enough to miss them in the viewfinder of a 400mm lens most of the time! So well adapted to the White Sands, I didn't see any earless lizards with similar bleached skin or markings anywhere else in the Southwest.
