Dear Adobe, please help me understand
The upcoming Adobe Creative Suite 5 upgrade costs $ 599 in the US. The same box will ship in The Netherlands for € 891.31. With the current exchange rate (April 13, 2010, 1USD = 0.736 Euro), it means the Euro version is twice as expensive.
Can someone from Adobe help me understand? Is shipping so expensive? Or perhaps the hyphenation and spell checker dictionaries? Europeans require more support? European design agencies willing to spend more?
I really hate to be a whiner. I've bought Adobe products since Illustrator 88. The tools have an important place in my design practice. My issue is not about the cost of CS — it takes a lot of effort to develop good software, I have no problem with paying for software, or paying for upgrades. I do have a question about the extraordinary difference between pricing in the US and Europe. I don't believe Adobe would sell to US users at a loss. So if the CS5 upgrade can be sold for $599, what's going on?
