Flood at old Patowmack Canal, near Great Falls

This is the original canal carved by a group led by George Washington in the 1780s in an effort to bypass Great Falls and promote navigation on the Potomac River. It is important historically: the bi-state talks initiated by Washington led to the Annapolis Convention, which in turn led to the Constitutional Convention.
