Off-Shore at Bridlington [ 1 ] : A Picture Taken Aboard the " Pirate Ship " as it nears its harbour : July 2nd 2008 .

"Pirate Ship" was built in 1979 for holidaymakers' fishing purposes. However in the 1980s with a fast changing national economy the fortunes of British seaside resorts steeply declined as more and more of the holidaying public travelled for the various

"Three Ess" cheaper foreign holiday resorts that were increasingly available and accessible . In response - rather than decommission their craft - the boat's owners ,

father and son, Arthur and Sean Newby , conceived the novel idea of fitting it out as a "pirate ship" to provide value tours of the Bridlington bay, and a

chance for children to experience an exciting voyage.
