this flag has been flying over the garage for about a week and already i've had two people come up and ask me why i'm flying the mexican flag instead of the american flag.
first, this isn't mexico's flag. this is. second, it's my house; i'll fly the mexican flag if i wanted to. third, i've flown the american flag all last year. i swear, if it wasn't for a few of the people here in minnesota, this state would be a GREAT place to live... "minnesota nice" my ass.
so anyway, this latest encounter got me thinking again... there isn't any other state (or any other region, for that matter, INCLUDING the US) whose people are more proud of who they are. people always poke fun at work (because that's what co-workers do, and i'll admit it, i poke fun at myself), but i know, and more importantly, THEY know, that i'm proud of my state. i may not be physically IN texas, but i'm still in texas because honestly, wherever i go, there goes texas.
we hold doors open for ladies. we say thank you. we let you pass us on the road if you're going faster than us. we're polite and we respect our elders. we know what bbq is (none of this propane on a stick crap). and if you came over, you'd be family.
so yeah, i'm flying the texas flag because i'm from texas. i just happen to live in minnesota, and at least one little slice of this northern piece of america is, like it or not... texas.
so go ahead, ask me why i fly the texas flag, and i'll tell you plain and simple... because that's my home.
