So... JD thinks it is nicely framed but not ironic, eh? I have to say the link didn't change my view of either irony or framing or this picture.

This photo wonderfully illustrates 'a sharp discordance between the real and the ideal'. I stand by my earlier comment.

Sorry to say it but the text looks photoshopped to me. No paint drips, and there's some weird halo effect on the large view. Abject apologies if not, it still works as an image.

It's not photoshopped... here's one I took earlier :o)

(Edit: OK, I deleted that following rant. I might have had a mild cow there, you're right, but I was a little insulted by the comment - I just wanted to make it clear that this shot was taken, not created - that's important.).

Abject apologies accepted :o)

To alleviate the 'phoney' element (in my eyes, and it really does look it when seen in isolation) of the postprocessing, you could consider a B&W conversion, you'll have far more latitude for tonal separation that way. On the actual framing, and I know you had little time here, a landscape shot or placing yourself further to the right (to lessen the negative space between the 2 main focal points) may have been advantageous: but then hindsight is a great tool isn't it.

BTW, I've never been called a twunt before, substitute the tw for something else and that's more on the money. However, sometimes it takes a jab to illicit an interesting response....

PS, I roughly know the area, I lived in Sheffield for 3 years quite a while ago - when 't ole in't road was still about.

It's not insulting to query whether there's a text layer in there. It's an easy effect that's abused all the time. It was my instinctive second thought after 'what luck'. A look through Lemon's other work reassured me this is good documentary.

So Lemon, what are you going to upload for your 1000th shot on Flickr?

BennehBoy I've been there too - here's my shot of the whole building.

stay thin

Of course I may have photoshopped it as well. We're a very canny lot here in Sheffield - we always photoshop in exactly the same way!

Why should anyone have to consider converting a shot to b&w just to prove to you that it is real! Just accept what is put in front of you!

Anyway, even if Lemon2's image was photoshopped it is a still a vivid image and a savage indictment of modern day values!

actually it is ironic there buddy... you are thinking too one dimensional.. just cause she isnt fat, doesnt mean there isnt a deeper meaning thats ironic... irony is often misused, however, in my eyes, this IS ironic because the message says to "stay thin" for what i understand to be a healthier lifestyle, however, she IS thin and does not look healthy at all, therefore, its ironic.
