Oh yeah! Nothing takes off the winter chill better than some leaf-crunching, rollerskating fun! Believe me, my helmet hair looks far worse than that. These were taken last October when the trees had just begun to change color and dot the ground with their pretty, golden-red leaves. Gosh, how I wanted to roll around in them and maybe pocket/eat a few!

Anyway, today I embarked on my first skating adventure in months. Woo hoo! These short, freezing days along with leaf-littered pavement have not made for easy riding... I even revisited this very spot but it was nearly unrecognizable - the trees are now butt naked and the park was blanketed with a cold fog and hundreds of (MEAN!) winter birds. The scene was beautiful nonetheless (in a Sleepy Hollow sorta way) and I got a great workout to boot. I can't wait for warmer days to roll back around - hellooo knee socks!

Over the last year, I've spent many a contemplative moment up here on this rooftop counting the airplanes ascending and descending over downtown San Jose. On this cold, dark December afternoon, it was here that I pulled 2011 out my pocket, all wrinkled and scribbed with memories (wonderful as well as not-so-wonderful), folded it into a paper airplane and sent it soaring into oblivion...

I am very much looking forward to 2012 and all the exciting/frightening challenges that lie ahead. Here's to spreading your wings, flying over all obstacles, and finally realizing your dreams. Happy New Year, dear flickr friends!

Christmas morning, 7am. A freeze warning was in full effect for San Jose and the melted ice had soaked my Vans as I watched the sunrise from underneath my pretty Christmas loquat tree. Despite a bad case of the sniffles and some sinus pressure, I had a joyful and triumpant day. Listened to some bluegrass, had a potato smashing workout, caught a flick, and shared an epic surf and turf meal with my family. It was the perfect way to recharge after another arduous yet creative week!

Well I hope you all had a wonderful (and delicious) Christmas. If anyone needs me, I'll be right here, daydreaming underneath the loquat tree...

Just a close-up of the colorful scarf i wore in my previous self-portrait. It's probably the most mesmerizing thing I've ever knitted. I just love it's gorgeous hand-painted palette of "autumn rainbow" colors and it's silky soft alpaca fabric (see close-up in comments). I swear, when it's not around my neck, I sometimes carry it around as a good luck charm!

Lots of knitting and personal reflection over the last year... That colorful scarf thingy is probably my absolute favorite piece from this summer's scarfathon. As with all my work, I knitted all my joy, my sorrows, and a handful of love into it...

Well, I celebrated my 29th birthday last week. My growth has been exponential over the last year. And though I've reached the end of my twenties, I feel younger and more alive than ever. These days, it feels like I am staring out into infinite abbyss - in the distance I can finally see the beginning of that beautiful, new life that I've always imagined...

It's time to fly.
