Without the upper-left shadowing, the composition would be uneven. So it seems stuck there for that purpose. Nice colors though

I'm alternating being nice & mean (or am I just nice and mean?) so I'm going with a save despite a minor quibble with the black foreground. If you cut it it would hurt the picture.

I find myself trying to guess your vantage point, as I've shot this refinery a few times as well.

I like the clouds in this shot, and the processing, while it feels slightly overdone, suits the subject.

Apart from the layering, the clouds make it I reckon. Because of all the stacks you think the clouds are plumes but none of the stacks are billowing smoke (save for a couple in bottom right).

The same thing kinda happened to me, when a zoo wanted to use my photo. I just wanted to know how they would use it, but they didn't even have the courtesy to respond.

I think the M.O. is to spam dozens or hundreds of people until they get enough decent photos to use.

I think you could be right. It makes sense on some levels - there is a lot of photos out there, many of them decent and if you apply yourself, you can get them for free.

On the other hand, if I were running a publication with decent circulation and operating budget, I would be more interested in the right photo in a timely fashion, and less so in getting a less than ideal photo for free and spending a lot of time looking for it....
