      Is the actual boat this shape at the bottom, or is this as if it was in water?

      It is a waterline model as shown by the red antifouling paint near the "waterline". A superb model. Captures the massive lines of the full sized vessel. In danger of beiing controversial I think ships lend thereselves better to Lego than aircraft.. . .
