Absolution

Original concept by Storm Thorgerson and Dan Abbott

Kim's theme this week was a tough one. Recreate an album cover, not, reimagine, reinterpret, but recreate - which certainly upped the difficulty. Finding an album cover that featured a person, had an interesting or iconic look and represented music that I like, just made it even harder. After an interesting flick through all of my CDs I narrowed it down to a small selection. Absolution by Muse was my preferred choice but required two things that I knew would be difficult to find, firstly a vantage point high above plain concrete in an appropriate orientation to utilise the shadows and secondly a gas mask.

Passing grade on the first (even if the angle wasn't quite right), fail on the second - so I substituted a camera. Oh and I couldn't stand to wear all black* for a second week running, so I bust out my new red shoes and a matching top.

For those who are interested, there is a flash on a lightstand just off the bottom right hand corner of the frame in order to provide a little fill on me.

LP size

I know this is popular with some people, so here's a link to my favourite track from the album - Hysteria - you'll need to turn the volume up. No, more than that. More. Still more. Go on, more! Ok, that'll probably do. No, actually, a bit louder.

I need to thank Kim for agreeing to hold this theme over from when she first proposed it several weeks back and also for her help, as ever, in getting to the final result.

My 52 Week Self-portrait Project is not an exercise in narcissism but an attempt to grow as a portrait photographer. Please leave me a comment - however small - and don't be afraid to criticise. Thanks

Amazing! Muse are the best and this is a really great interpretation of the Absolution cover. I have thought about doing this one - though deciding it was possibly quite difficult, I went with Origin of Symmetry with felt and pipe cleaners lol!
