here's one of the shots i absolutely love. it's by no means what people would call a "beautiful" shot, but that was it - i was arrested by the magnetic intensity of her green-brown eyes (and occasionally grey in the mornings) the first moment i met her. here we were in a middle of a conversation, and christina, in middle of speech (perhaps german thinkers or expressionist art, i don't remember) on the last evening before winter break; both of us expected to be in our classes but neither of us were. it was quite chilly, we shared a strawberry crunky ice cream, and it was one of the singularly most memorable moments in my favourite season.

this was a gentle moment before and behind the lens; the summer relentless, afternoon sun was setting, and on the 7th floor a gentle breeze started to make its acquaintance. you say to your soul:

be still, and wait without hope
for hope would be hope of the wrong thing; wait without love
for love would be love of the wrong thing; there is yet faith
but the faith, and the love, and the hope are all in the waiting
wait without thought, for you are not ready for thought:
so the darkness shall be the light, and the stillness the dancing.

here's ina slightly pissed and after cycling home from shinjuku in torrential rain (piss also, as she will call it). she banged on my door tonight without warning, and the door opened to a growing puddle of water around our feet. for the good of our selves and others (actually mostly others), there are days i wished japan would make laws for drunk cycling. p.s. not being self righteous in the least - i am also one such cyclist.

this was a funny day. nan introduced me to karn at a thai restaurant, saying he is to enter NUS in the next academic year. now this is a boy, young although he may not look it, but young enough to yearn being old. i granted his wish in this one, taken along the streets of takadanobaba/waseda.

chiaki is in my zemi, and is one of the most forthcoming japanese i know. particularly so after a few rounds of beer (she guzzles faster than the boys) and good alcohol (also means no vile cocktails or drinks containing milk). she is also a 関ジャニー８ fan and bobs along to their moves in karaoke. i do feel a lot of fondness for this girl, although strangely enough we've never really talked when we were sober.
