Butcher of Srinagar

The real butchers are the Indian Security forces and the militants. Sadly innocent people are caught in the cross fire.

This is the first picture I took in Kashmir, at a road side butcher shop in down town Srinagar.

Support you totally, buddy. There are such pseudo-patriotic people in every country. They will call you irrational, anti-national, but ignore them.

We can only progress by admitting our own mistakes. Its those poor Kashmiri janta who always suffer between between the governments of India and Pakistan.

And yet there are also scared young soldiers in an alien place, where they share nothing with the people - not the language, or food, nor culture - who are there because its their job (ok so they made a choice of sorts) and there are local people who join militancy... sometimes out of pressure, sometimes because of... even the 'romance' of the gun...and in between are the really ordinary people, sick of it all. Trying to live their lives. Its a hard place to be in.

pj58 - I did not wish to villainies the Indian soldiers they are not trained to handle such situations. Yes the army is a lesser evil but we must acknowledge the fact they are not innocent to all the proceedings.

This is something I wrote about it earlier -
"Frozen in a fifteen year conflict between separatists, armed foreign insurgents and a stretched security force, Srinagar looks like a place in the middle of a war zone, In many way it is a city under siege, a city that has almost lost its spirit. The victim, the ordinary Kashmiri, is left alienated by his own country and an army that was sent there for his protection. As a guide in the Kashmiri mountain resort of Gulmarg told me, "Hum kya boll sakte hai Bhaisaab, hamare awaz cheen lai gai hai. Humare mathe par ek calank chap gaya hai" (We have can't say anything brother, our voice has been taken away from us. Our foreheads have been branded)

It is a hard place to life. Let us hope there is an end to all this violence
