This is the real deal!!!
Microsoft, you did it again :)
Are you sure you didn't use photoshop to save it?
Because that would make it say this
Priceless! by LuisDS.

The new microsoft ad campaign includes photos in their website www.microsoft.com/presspass/windows/imageGallery.aspx made in a mac!

Hilarious!

A good story around this issue by Daniel Eran Dilger in this link:

Well, now this image is all over the news and linking here! To all journalists and bloggers, thanks for the credit, really appreciated.

I love the irony!

The real kicker is that Microsoft scrambled to put a new picture up last night that was made on a Windows PC, but the new picture size is bloated and it doesn't look as good as the mac one!

Er... So the image was created (or simply saved) on a Mac running Photoshop CS3. So?

Regarding the bloat: last I heard, CS3 doesn't save any differently on the Mac vs the PC, so all that's been demonstrated is that: 1) a Mac was used to save an image and, 2) someone doesn't know how to strip metadata properly.

Take a look at all the RIA content in their website. It's made with Adobe Flash instead of their super duper Flash killer, Silverlight.

This doesn't mean absolutely nothing. I'm a PC user, but I also have a new iPhone 3G. And you know what? At the Apple store (at least the one in Chelsea, NYC) where I got my iPhone, they were using a fancy mobile scanner to charge the credit cars (it looks like a laser gun) and you know what? The operating system for that device is Windows Mobile... so... yes... Apple is using Windows Mobile to charge credit cars at their stores.
You can find many of this kind of ironies everywhere, and they doesn't mean anything.

@agenterafa86 Yes, the machines in the apple store are microsoft operated. This is imposed by the banks who process the credit card transactions. You must use the hardware they authorise. And honest, your English is appalling (and English is my second language!)

I have recently thrown out my windows PC and replaced it with a Mac.

It is apparant that Windows is a woman.. You tell it what to do, it pretends to listen and goes and does what it thinks you should be wanting to do which is nothing like what you want. When you try to tell it, it got it wrong, it will argue and insist that it has done what you want but hasn't. It gives meaningless error messages and makes simple tasks too complex to attempt.

Macintosh is like a bloke. It will do what you ask, and only what you ask, noting more, nothing less. It dosn't ask pointless questions, nor does it take any longer than necessary to complete a task.

I honestly don't see why this is such a big deal. Microsoft didn't make the ad themselves. They farmed it out to an agency, and most ad agencies do all their video work on Macs. What were they supposed to do -- only take bids from agencies that work solely with Windows machines?
Posted 10 months ago. ( permalink )

It is not a big deal. It is just ironic that the very product you are attacking is used to orchestrate that attack.... Lame is the word that comes to mind :)

Resuna says:

What's really ironic is that the point of the "I'm a Mac" ads isn't that PC users are geeks. It's that Windows is annoying, inconvenient, and even dangerous. Microsoft's response is "lots of people use Windows anyway".

Yeh, we know you're a monopoly. That's how you can get away with "change for the sake of change" that nobody ever asked for in Vista. I mean, I've been annoyed when Apple changes details of OS X for no good reason, but compared to Windows... sheesh.

Finding out that "I'm a PC" is made on a Mac just demonstrates the essential cluelessness of the campaign. THe "I'm a Mac" ads say "Windows is a pain in the neck". The fact that the "I'm a PC" campaign was made on a Mac adds another voice saying "Yes, we know".

Mac or PC? It doesn't matter what you use. You can be creative on a PC and run your business on a MAC or vice versa.

It's really a personal preference. They can each do what the other one does. Period.

What do I use? Both.

@ focalmatter - You're missing the point. I would think that the headhunter looking for a design agency for a product SPECIFICALLY TARGETING MACS would at least tell the agency to do their screenshots on a Windows PC. Even if it's still dodgy at least they wouldn't look like chumps.

@ willygseattle - You are missing the point, too. Of course the toolbox doesn't make one more creative, but it CAN help you get the job done better. That still doesn't have anything to do with the humor in this hilarious oversight on the part of the ad agency AND Microsoft.

How did you get that meta data?
I tried and all I see in the inspector window is
Jfif tab
Density Unit: 0
JFIF Version: 1.2
X Density: 100
Y Density: 100

General tab
Color Model: RGB
Depth: 8
DPI Height: 72
DPI Width: 72
Pixel Height: 450
Pixel Width: 800

It is ether that you on your mac used Photoshop to save it, or you have a special method which I don't know to preserve the metadata.

Great discovery Luis.

I recently bought iMac and it's amazing machine. Simply it works, just like Google for example. Before, I used Pc for almost 15 years, before that I had ZX Specturm and one Commodore. There were so many excellent products on the market (like Amiga or Atari) but Wintel, using aggressive marketing, suppress them all.

I am really happy that Mac is getting more popular.
