Hanim sisters and the headscarf girls

Hanim sisters and the headscarf girls

I recently read "Snow" - Orhan Pamuk. (www.amazon.com/Snow-Orhan-Pamuk/dp/0375406972). When I saw these Russian dolls in a Christmas village in Philly, in my mind, I couldn't help but visualize them as "extremely beautiful Ipek Hanim" (sic), her little sister Kadife Hanim who is a revolutionary and the headscarf girls of the forlorn Turkish city of Kars. Ipek doesn't actually wear a scarf, but that's a detail I would ignore for the merit of poetic liberty!

Paint it red

Paint it red

what do you see?

A block of iron, painted red? With a few pipes and wires going around? Screws and caps and oil and grease and..in other words, just stuff inside the car's hood?

Or perhaps....

It makes your blood boil..
Makes your brain produce an overwhelming doze of that thing called adrenaline....
Makes your palms sweat, longing for the feeling of throbbing wheel inside them...
Makes you clutch your toes, thinking about the pleasure of your eyes, hands and legs working in perfect synergy, to result in the pleasureable experience of driving...
Makes you think about those countless hours you have spent marveling certain creations of man, falling in love a thousand times over..
Makes you question the fruitfulness of your own existence at times....

Alpine Sunbeam

Alpine Sunbeam

Flipping through my exploits from the 15th Annual Radnor Hunt Concours d'Elegance from last week now...

The Alpine Sunbeam, or more popularly known as the "Talbot" Sunbeam was a two-seater sports roadster initially developed by Sunbeam-Talbot dealer George Hartwell in Bournemouth, as a one-off rally car. Seen here is the Series IV model from 1965, sporting a 1592 cc engine. It developed less power than the original Alpine of '53 which had a a four-cylinder 2267 cc engine.
