basking painted turtles Chrysemys picta

Ah, yes, the classic one leg up stance that turtles almost always seem to have!
basking painted turtles Chrysemys picta by laurielabar.
I got a bit too close for comfort to the left-hand turtle, who slipped off after a few shots.
Taken on Nequasset stream, in Maine.

Great shot, Laur! I love the composition and the color in this one! Did you take it from your kayak? Kiff and I are contemplating adopting Gwen and Alan's pet turtle... we don't know what kind it is. They adopted the turtle from the same family that we adopted the fish tank from, but the kids almost never remember to feed it... poor thing!

You know that turtles are my spirit animal?

I don't know how I missed this one when you posted it! I love it!

Excellent capture. You would think that these "slow" animals would be easy to photograph, but don't be deceived! These guys are lightning fast platform jumpers. This is fantastic shot, indeed!!!

I work for Chester County Parks & Recreation (www.chesco.org/ccparks) in southeastern Pennsylvania.

We are working on a project and would like to use this image on an interpretive display sign at the Black Rock Sanctuary (www.chesco.org/ccparks/blackrock).

Would we be permitted to use this photo? We would like a high-resolution version of this photo.
