Reef Tank - 6 Weeks Old by Laurie York

Reef Tank - 6 Weeks Old

Reef Tank - 6 Weeks Old
This is a photo of my 65 gal "baby" reef tank. It was set-up on Oct. 16th thanks to Thorin and Cody! It cycled for 4 weeks and I added my two Clownfish, Lisa and Flomar, on November 16th. I also added some live coral when I added the fish...

A few days after the Clowns were in their new tank I realized that Flomar had developed the ich - a treatable condition due to the stress of being shipped 3,000 miles from Florida. I removed Flomar from the display tank and put him in the quarantine tank so I could treat him with meds.

Just an hour after Flomar was removed from the tank Lisa freaked out and jumped from the main part of the tank into a the overflow - a narrow vertical space where the return pipes are located. Carmen and I tried everything we could think of to retrieve Lisa (with no luck) and were just about to get out the shop vac when we had another idea. We put a plastic bag on a long stick and pushed it down into the bottom of the over space. Lisa began to rise up to the top of the tank as I pulled the bag upward. When Lisa got to the surface of the water I was able to grab her with my gloved hand!

So today, I'm celebrating the fact that Flomar has been cured, and that he and Lisa are reunited in the big display tank - they both seem so happy now :)

I also want to thank my niece, Lisa and her husband, Richard, reef tank pros, who have answered my many, many questions and have coached me along the way. I LOVE my reef tank, my little underwater garden in the living room :)

Tank includes:
100 lbs. of live rock
65 Mexican Red Legs (hermit crabs)
65 Snails
2 False Percula Clownfish
1 Neon Green Ricordea... See More
1 Neon Orange Ricordea
1 Blue Ricordea
2 Maroon Red Kelp Frags
1 Toadstool Coral,
1 Meat Coral named Virginia
2 Clove Coral Frags
2 Green Star Polyp Frags
1 Yellow Eyelash Polyp
1 Galaxia Coral
++++ Lots of LOVE!!!

Little Chihuahua Witches by Laurie York

Little Chihuahua Witches

When I spotted these two little black and orange witches' hats at the local thrift store I thought there might be a Halloween photo in Pearl and Chi Chi's near future :)
