Today I was at work,
on my break and in the locker room. For ten minutes I stood against the back wall, out of sight, listening to two strangers talking. One was a young girl my age, and the other was a woman probably 30. The girl was crying when the woman sat down next to her. The woman asked if the girl was okay. She barely managed to say “No”. I imagined the woman look at the girl with questioning eyes, because without verbally being asked, the girl replied, “Boy.” The woman followed with a sigh. She said, “It’ll get easier, child. I promise ya. I know.”
I sat against that wall listening to the two strangers talking for ten minutes before they finally left, still talking about the boy, only she was no longer crying.
I hope to see more love like that. Love between two strangers, just caring for one another.
I then left the locker room with watery eyes.
