Northern Hawk Owl

Northern Hawk Owl

Went on a hike this past weekend in Kananaskis. A bird flew across the path in front of me. When it landed I took a closer look and realized it was an owl when I saw his head rotate. Though I've seen pictures of Northern Hawk Owls on the internet I had no idea they were so small! I wish there weren't so many branches. I just couldn't find a place to stand without something being in the way. He flew to this tree trunk and proceeded to eat a vole/mouse he had stored in the tree...he'd been here before!

When I spotted my first Great Grey Owl back in June, it awakened an owl quest in me. I'm on a mission to find every owl species in Alberta. So far I've found:
1. Great Grey
2. Great Horned
3. Snowy
4. Northern Hawk Owl

I'm amazed at the power of intention. I can't wait to find more!
