Colorful Hong Kong Island

Colorful Hong Kong Island by laszlo-photo.
The overphotographed, but never drab skyline of Hong Kong Island as seen from Kowloon. This has to be one of the most commonly photographed scenes in the world, so if you've uploaded a similar shot on flickr, feel free to add your link in the comments below!

how can you have too many shots of Hong Kong Island at night? It's a great place. You got a great shot of the light reflecting off the clouds. I wanted to get some night shots from Victoria Peak but it was too cloudy when I went

Interesting how the water reflects some lights and not others, and how the colour goes all the way to the shore, even when the lights are only at the top of the building.
Very nice large, to see al the detail.

So atmospheric! I love the colors and different reflections on the water. I like it in the large version!

Hi DC. I know you're right. If I went back to HK, I'm sure I'd click a few more, myself. It is hard to escape the clouds on Victoria. I have a couple of nice shots from the "Peak," but I am still debating whether to post them because it was just too hazy for my taste...

Thank you for the kind words Andrew. I never noticed it before but you're right, all of the advertising signs throw their light toward the water and the acrchitectural lighting doesn't show... I wish the detail in the advertising signs were more apparent. The red and blue blobs atop the buildings read "Canon," "Philips," "Samsung," etc... It's not obvious in this 10 second exposure.

Thanks Ar'alani - It is a beautiful sight. Everyone with a camera who sees this scene, takes a shot or two (or three, or four). The clouds were particularly nice on the evening I took this one. :-)

Hey Ale! How are you doin' man??? Exams over? I made up my mind, I'm going to buy the extravagant Canon 5D. Nikon makes wonderful cameras, but I own 5 EOS lenses so Canon would be a good choice for me... and it is currently the most affordable (ha!) camera that gives me the same kind of resolution that I'm used to with film.

Nice to hear from you bsmith... you've been snapping some pretty fine ones yourself lately!

I'm ok dude! The exams didn't begin yet! First phase on august 20! Second on september third! Bad ass difficult test, will be my fourth attempt to pass on it...this time I think I'll nail it!
You choose well your next gear! The 5D is a war tank, besides, it produces one of the best images in terms of quality on the market! But you have to pay the price fot it, of course! Since you have EOS lenses, GO FOR IT! Certainly you will not be disappointed! Your lenses are EF series? That a look on that, because auto focus may not work on that. But you are used to it already, right?
Another thing: You'll have to buy an waterproof housing for the 5D too right? I hear Ikelite's housing is one of the most reliable! Take a look on that!
Cheers bud!

Good luck on your exam today! I'm sure you'll nail it!
Yes all of my lenses are EF. And YES, I have great difficulty autofocusing my macros all of the time with my old Rebel II. I appreciate the advice my friend. I have been slow in deciding on the right camera because it is a huge investment. I am happy to hear you say the 5D is a good model.
I use an Ikelite housing now for underwater. They are kind of bulky, but they are very reliable and cost the less than other choices.
Take Care Man! Good Luck!
