Vibrant Queen

Vibrant Queen by laszlo-photo.
A nicely colored Queen Angelfish (Holocanthus ciliaris) darts by the camera. I was lucky that the fish is not blurred, since I was panning the camera as the fish swam by. But I wasn't so lucky with the framing.

Oh well, she is pretty!

Thanks Ale - I love this fish and this is the best picture I have to show the real colors. It was swimming so fast, I was lucky to catch this frame at all, but still, I wish I could have included the last centimeter of the tail. Maybe next time!

Hey thanks Mark! That really is quite a compliment coming from you. Your stuff is definitely top shelf (heck, it's PRO).

Are you ready to be unimpressed?... I still use an antiquated Canon 35mm Rebel IIs in a discontinued Ikelite SLR housing. I use the obsolete Ikelite Substrobe Ai. I scan my slides to digital using the, now, discontinued Nikon Coolscan IV. wild... huh? :-D

I am planning to go digital, eyeing the Canon 30D & 5Ds (because I can continue using my current EOS lenses). I'd probably again go with Ikelite for the strobes. Not sure about the housing; it's hard to beat Ikelite's price and quality.

I have been reluctant to make the move because I'd have to give up dynamic range, color saturation (and possibly resolution if I go with a 6MP model). But film is slowly becoming obsolete, so...

Ah... I thought it must be slide for you to get that great saturation. Well done. :-) I think your setup has gotten you some of the best stuff I have seen from Canon gear.

I'm far from pro, but thank you! :-)

Regards,

Mark :)

The 30D and 5D are great cameras Laszlo. But if you can affort to buy the 5D, get it without hesitation! If you want a professional oppinion about the gains and losses between a film camera and the 5D, talk to my friend nicointheBLUEbus!
He uses a film camera and recently bought it a 5D too. I'm sure he will be glad to answer all your questions. And his photostream is a must see too!
See you buddy. Have a nice week!
