Hang On Sloopy (From 6 ft Away)
![]() 139-12 ... This beautiful creature was discovered clinging to the wall on our front porch one morning.
Jim "soccersc" believes it may be a Tulip Tree Silk Moth (Callosamia augilifera) female. ... Thanks Jim. … But "view[+]finder" says it is actually a Cecropia Moth (Hyalophora cecropia) www.treknature.com/gallery/photo49415.htm ... Thanks "view[+]finder". I sure wouldn't know a Tulip Tree Silk Moth from a Cecropia Moth from a frog. It appeared to just be taking shelter from the wind ... claws dug into the stuco ... wings being blown around violently. (hence "Hang On Sloopy") I raced to get out my camera and hastily took snapshots in fear that I'd miss the opportunity. ... I started out by zooming in from six feet away, thinking I'd surely scare it away, amazed that opening the door didn't spook it. This is one of the first shots from the doorway to the porch, some six feet away, with the camera zoomed way in. This antique camera (circa 2000) is only 2.1 megapixels, with an all-purpose 10X zoom lens. Camera: Sony MVC-CD1000, 2.1 megapixel (antique) www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonycd1000/ Software: Adobe Photo Deluxe Home Edition 3.0" which came free with a scanner circa 2000. .
