Parking

I usually try to post "good" photographs; well, ones that I think are good, have artistic value, look cool, or I spent a lot of time on.

But today I post a photograph that is a rant of sorts.

I went to the Irvine Spectrum (an outdoor mall) and was delighted to be able to park in the brand new parking structure. It is a great addition to the Spectrum because of the parking problem it once had. The parking structure is very advanced and will tell you, via digital displays, how many spots are available on each floor.

This day the structure was full, well most floors said full, this particular floor showed 5 spaces left. Upon driving around looking for the scarce 5, I found this vehicle parked in two spaces.

I decided to try to teach this person a lesson; I also thought it was extremely funny.

Please read the letter that I placed on their windshield if you haven't already and let me know what you think.

Oh, and I didn't really try to park in their space; and I know I misspelled tried and towel.

They make stickers like that and sell them at this site, but they have to go to great pains to pretend you're not going to put them on cars you don't own, because technically it's vandalism (in the US at least.)

I see it two ways.

1) this guy was purposely being a dick by taking up two spots. Granted if the facility is tight, and you're looking for a spot, you have full right to become parking police and vandalize his $45,000 vehicle.....except you dont.

2) this guy has had numerous times doors banged up from people carelessly parking next to his BMW. Last week, he got his car back after 3 days of repairs from dents/scratches. He decides to be safe in the already crowded area, and take two spots.

About 5% of the people on the road still give a shit about what their vehicle looks likes. I don't think its anyone but the proper authorities responsibility to enforce the parking laws in California, especially with how strict they are on road laws to begin with. Next time call it up, instead of proving a point, which the only point you've proven is that you're a douche nozzle.

I don't care how much body work this person has had done on his car recently, it doesn't justify taking two spots. If they don't want their car banged up, they should leave it at home and take the bus. Where do you draw the line? Should they get their own freeway lane, too? The only thing that would justify it is if they paid double, provided this is a pay lot.

Gotta love made up statistics, too. From the number of people I see getting their cars detailed, sitting in lines at carwashes and doing it themselves in the driveway, I'd say the 5% number is way off.

But what if the person had been parked there a long time, and at the time he/she parked there were cars on both sides that were improperly parked, and they had no choice but to park along side a mis-parked car. Then it wouldn't have been their fault. Then, once the other cars left, it looked like this person was parked all wrong.

Every time I get upset about a car taking up 2 spaces, I have to realize that unless I saw the person park there, I have no idea what the situation was.

Perhaps this guys is a complete ass. But it could also be that when he parked, this was the only thing available. Perhaps others were parked incorrectly.
