036 - Cutest. Virus. Ever.

February 5, 2010--Meet the common cold. Actually, meet three of them, magnified over 1,000,000 times, given beady little eyes and rendered in plush.

Quite possibly one of my favorite toy creations in the last 15 years or so, Giant Microbes have taken over my home to a small degree. The originals are usually 5 or 6 inches tall (or long), while these minis are only about 2 inches tall. They also make "gigantic" microbes (as if 1,000,000 times actual size isn't gigantic enough) that are about 20 inches tall. I've been gifted four varieties of minis (common cold, gangrene, bookwork and beer/bread yeast) and a gigantic neuron. I also have about a dozen of the original-sized ones. The gigantic neuron, for whatever reason, is great for napping on the couch with.

Most Giant Microbes are ridiculously cute, though I feel like they missed the cute mark on a few of them. They're a great, quirky gift for a friend who's sick (What better way to combat your illness than to cuddle it?), biologists, medical professionals, cute enthusiasts and geeks.
