The Snow Queen

Entry for the uk etsy challenge -fairy tales...btw..I know this is an old piece so if it doesn't meet the rules then discard it.

Produced during the second year of my Apprenticeship (2004)

Technique: Stumpwork

Time spent= Actually I don't remember probabley about 60, cause i kept adding to it.

Materials: perlescant paint, mulberry paper (in white) beads, sequins, various fibres and threads, anglina fibre and various scrap bits of fabrics.

The background: Painted calico which i then applied mulberry paper and anglina fibre and in the arch shape printed fabric.

The arch, free machine embroidery on pelmit vilene (for support), fabrics used various organza's.

The Queen, the coat is needlelace, worked in white and metallic threads, to give an extra sheen. Then silk velvet for the cuff, hem, which was wrapped with white organza and filled with sequins to add more sheen. Wrapped wired hand, silk shaded hair and a pleeted piece of organza ribbon for the collar of the coat.

The dress was machine embroidered in patch work style in organza fabrics, I then added a top skirt of white organza with a wired edge, to help keep it's shape, with a buttohole edge

The face, was worked seperatly then applied to the background.
