Dia de los muertos altar I...
![]() This is my altar for Dia de Los Muertos. I knew I had an idea, a thought: photos of my Grandparents, Great Grandparents, and of course, my father. So, my little man helped me by coloring the calavera/skull that is above the pot of dried flowers. And slowly, it began....I crocheted the two sugar skulls and added some color. Next, the Calabaza/squash; for I come from a family of ranchers and farmers and above all, those in love with the outdoors. Next, a photo added of my Dad wrapped around a vela/candle. Little man and I added some vibrant colors to some skulls, so they were added. Last, but not least, my wire/clay sculpture and loteria cards which have both story and memory to me. As I gaze at this photo, I realize that my love for my family has never died...even with the drama, the dangerous daggers of truth, we are still here. And I feel their presence daily. I hope to spend many days gazing at this ofrenda with love, honor, and for my son to see vibrance of my heritage, family, and culture.
