Ugh - 'The Blue Ridge Brood' (Brood I) of the seventeen year cicadas are currently emerging in our area. The cicadas are *everywhere - the underside of almost every leaf, climbing up tree trunks, sticking to window screens. When I was a kid, I thought they were cool. Now they just gross me out!

This brings back memories... I just checked my photo scrapbook to be sure, and Memorial Day Weekend of 1999 we were camping with extended family near Bergton, and it was the year of the cicadas... they were indeed EVERYWHERE, and their "singing" was so loud that it sounded like the hum of traffic on an expressway. Great capture... I've purposely never seen one that close-up before!

How could something that ugly ever reproduce ??!! And yet, you've managed to make it look quite nice, love the detail.
