Shoot Yourself x 4
MY PHOTOGRAPHY WEBSITE IS AT www.photine.net
These photos were taken for the Epic Edits Shoot Yourself photo project. I'm posting to Flickr because my main photography site is set up with weekly themes and this photo wouldn't fit with this week's theme. This project was hard for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that I hate taking photos of myself and I'm not terribly creative. I don't know why I finally decided to shoot my four cameras, but I'm sure being the sentimental sap that I am, it was partly because I didn't want to leave any one of them out. In the upper left is the Canon Digital Rebel XT. This is what I take a large majority of my photos with. I bought the silver because every one said that I should get black. I'm contrary that way. I've had this camera for two years and it will probably stay with me at least another year unless money falls from the sky. I've considered moving up to the 40D at that time, but my hands are really small and the XT feels comfortable in my hand. I'll probably get the latest version of the XT when the time comes. In the upper right is the Holga 120S. I ventured into the toy camera world the second half of 2007 and I absolutely love it. Once I got over my initial fear of film (eeek....film!) I found the lack of controls and settings very freeing. The Holga has given me some great shots in just the two rolls I've run through and I look forward to using it even more in the coming year. In the lower left hand corner is the Fuji Finepix F20. This is the camera that I carry with me on a day to day basis. It is small enough to fit easily in my purse. I just feel better having a camera with me at all times especially since my cell phone camera is so bad. It's not a bad camera, but the photos don't look good to me at full size. I want to replace it, but my money would be better spent elsewhere. It could never measure up to my first compact camera, heck my first digital camera, which was the completely marvelous Canon S45. In the lower right hand corners is the Voigtlander Vitessa, a 35mm rangefinder. This camera was given to me by my aunt's husband and has been sitting in my closet for the last year and a half. I forgot about it after he gave it to me because at the time I had absolutely no interest in film. That has changed after my exposure to the Holga and I plan to work with this camera in the coming year. I have no doubt that I am going to mess up a bunch of rolls of film until I finally get a grasp of aperture/shutter, but it is such a cool camera, I want to learn how to use it. Thank you Martin and Brian for setting out this project! Commentsdwightsilverman

You know, it actually took me a second to figure out that you had 4 different cameras in your hand. Nice work on this, it's a really great project entry!
